Gourmet on a Budget - Spaghetti and Tuna!

Updated: Jan 17, 2019

Enjoy the simplicity of this meal..

Julia Child said it, and I want to reiterate it:

"You don't have to cook fancy or complicated masterpieces, just good food from fresh ingredients."

She knew what she was talking about. This is a meal I've known since my childhood and I really had a craving for it today. So with a few fresh ingredients I decided to try to recreate this masterpiece with the addition of a few ingredients.

Note: I used half pack of Spaghetti to 1 tin of Tuna which comfortably fed me and my significant other. Based on this ratio if you're serving more or less people, adjust the amount to suit your need.

The ingredients are as follows:

  1. Parsley

  2. Coriander

  3. Olives (Pitted)

  4. Lime Juice

  5. Tin of Tuna (In Water)

  6. Spaghetti

  7. Salt

  8. Black Pepper

  9. Chili Powder

  10. Garlic Powder

  11. Olive Oil

  12. Angostura Bitters (Optional)

Here's what to do:

  • Get that Spaghetti boiling - To your pot of water add 2 teaspoons of salt and olive oil, wait for the water to come to a boil and then add pasta and cook al dente.

  • Add some lime juice to your tuna and set aside.

  • In a sauce pan, add 1 tablespoon of olive oil and 2 teaspoons of garlic powder to that and let it simmer slightly.

  • Then add the parsley, coriander and olives to the hot oil and garlic powder mixture and cook for a few seconds.

  • Add your tuna to this mixture, sprinkle salt, black pepper and chili powder and stir, then after a minute add a dash of lime juice and angostura bitters and stir. Cook for about another minute.

  • Strain your pasta and add it back to its original pot and then add your tuna mixture to the pasta followed by a tablespoon of olive oil

Mix well and get ready to serve!

Serve and add a few drops of lime juice to the top :)
